Synthesis and Pharmacological Characterisation of Novel GABAA-Receptor Modulators

Supervisor: Prof. Steffen Hering

Student: Maximilian Haider

The GABA-receptor is widely spread in the human nervous system, mediating the ion flux via assembled G-proteins. Therefore this receptor plays an important role in the excitability of the brain in general, exhibiting subunit dependant specific effects (e.g. anxiolytic and anticonvulsant effects modulated by the GABAA-subunit). Hence this GABAA-subunit displays an interesting pharmacological target towards drug development. According to that, many potential target molecules have to be synthesized and tested to narrow the potential drug candidates and develop a novel remedy bearing major side effects.
